Hiking for Rhinos – Jo Devenish about to set off on her incredible trail

Jo Devenish on one of her adventurous expeditions

Jo Devenish is about to set off on her hiking for rhinos adventure. She departed Dawson City (Yukon) on 19 April for Phoenix; this is where she will reside until tomorrow 26 April. She will then fly to San Diego where she will be staying with a Trail angel for the night of 26 April, who will drop her off at Campo to start the hike early morning on 27 April to hopefully finish by the time 1 October 2017 comes around.

Jo will be hiking the Scenic Pacific Crest Trail, which is designated a National Scenic Trail. It is 2,650 miles (4265 km) long and stretches from the Mexican border, near the small town of Campo in Southern California; to Manning Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. The route travels through 25 national forests and seven national parks, most of it through protected wilderness area.

So far, Jo’s hiking for Rhinos expedition has raised over R166 000, which will be going directly to the two specified beneficiaries; the Southern African Wildlife College (SAWC) and the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC). There is no doubt that at the current rate of poaching, the fate of Africa’s rhino is at stake, and we salute men and women like Jo who are taking initiatives to make sure our natural resources are conserved for our future generations.

A big thank you goes out to all who have donated and those who have pledged towards Jo’s incredible journey. You can read more about Jo’s initiative, her story and how you can follow her expedition whilst also helping raise funds to assist in saving our rhino. https://www.hike4rhinos.com/index.html
